Uttar Pradesh To Get $950 Million Investment By Reliance Jio To Build A Data Center
A recent report by Hindustan Times reports that Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd is committed to investing $950 million to develop a data center in Uttar Pradesh.
In addition, this center will be driven by the renewable energy plant of the company. Sidharth Nath Singh confirmed the news of Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister for MSME, claiming that a 20-acre plot was designated for this project at Rs 7000 crore.
“The center comprises six interconnected data center buildings with a capacity of 30,000 racks and 200 MW of power. It is anticipated that it will generate thousands of jobs in the IT sector,” Singh explained in a statement.
The digital economy of India should increase to $1 trillion by 2025 and the new rules on data localization from the Reserve Bank of India have further promoted the need to create more domestic data centers.
The central government is also considering a policy that will enhance the development of data centers by companies. Infrastructure status will be provided to companies embarking on this move and will facilitate the availability of long-term loans. In addition, the central and state governments will also provide fiscal and non-fiscal incentives.
The Minister of Electronics and Informatics (MeITY) published a draught policy of the Data Center stating that “The data localization provisions of the proposed Data Protection Act and the protection of country-specific digital sovereignty in an increasingly connected world are further requiring data center infrastructure within the boundaries of the country.”
