Unlimited free storage offer from Google photos ends this month and here are few items to remember

From 1 June 2021, the Google Photos app will back up high-quality new photos and videos counted for the Google Account storage of 15GB of users.

Google has explained that before 1 June 2021 backup images and videos will not be counted to the 15GB usage limit for Google’s account.

You can either remove content or subscribe to Google One, if you exceed your storage limit of 15GB.

Google states in particular that high-quality images and videos that have been backed up before 1 June 2021 do not count against the storage of Google Account.

Google Photos is one of the strongest Internet-based photo-sharing sites. One of the reasons for its popularity was the limitless free storage of images and videos of great quality. You could keep your settings for Google Images at high-quality uploads. Your Android phone will continue to upload unlimited photos and videos that won’t count to 15GB of storage on your Google account. Just like everything, the free ride eventually comes to an end.

Google revealed back in November that on 1 June 2021, free and unrestricted storage was terminated, i.e. beginning next month, any photos or videos uploaded from the photo storage service would count against the 15GB of free Google storage. This does not extend to Pixel users worldwide, however. If you own a pixel unit, keep it close and drive on.

For those who did not know, Google Photos started at Google IO 2015 and was essentially a standalone Google+ app. It came with some useful picture and video editing software. By May 2017, the app reached 500 million users and reached 1 billion app downloads by June 2017.

What about the images and videos that are already posted to Google Photos?

One of the biggest concerns posed shortly after Google announced its move to a paid photos in November was what happens to current photos and videos. It must be noted that all images and videos posted in high quality before June 1 2021 will not count on Google Account storage for 15GB of users.

This should come in as relief for a lot of users, especially considering that the last few months, in any case, haven’t been great for holidaying thanks to the pandemic, which means fewer recent photos and plenty of old memories that will be safe in Google Photos.

What’s changing post-June 1 for Google Photos users?

Since 2015, Google Photos has offered two backup options – unlimited high-resolution free storage and original storage with free quality of up to 15GB.

High-quality content will be saved from 1 June 2021 but will be counted against storing your Google account. That means you can either subscribe to Google One for additional cloud storage or uninstall content to continue with the free storage option in Photography once you have reached your storage limit. The main explanation is that Google stores your Account through Drive, Gmail and Photos.

If any users are afraid of losing Google storage space by saving original images in the Photos app and want to change their level, they can do it now. The original quality images backed up, and then compressed to high quality after June 1, 2021, are included in the storage of your Google account. This means that if you want to switch your tier from your original quality to high quality, do so immediately.

The good thing is, Google Photos gives users the estimation of how long a user can save pictures, videos, and files, depending on how much.

Google has also announced that a new storage management platform will be developed for current Google Photos users in June. “In June, you will be able to use a free new tool that will help you locate and check blurry, dark and other poor quality pictures to keep you inside the 15GB of accounts.” The Google Photos page says.

Are you a Google Photos user but confused about what to do?

Given new changes from 1 June 2021, current Google Photos users can immediately download high quality pictures and videos. Why? Google’s saying, “Any photo or videos that you uploaded before 1 June 2021 in high quality won’t qualify for your free storage of 15GB. This means that images and videos backed up before 1 June 2021 are still free and free of storage.”
