Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook have recovered from a major outrage
The social networks owned by Facebook were down for many
According to a tweet by Margi Murphy, Telegraph’s, Facebook resolved a big breakdown impacting Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and other Facebook services on Friday.
“There was a technical problem earlier this day causing users to have difficulty accessing certain Facebook services,” said Facebook.
“We fixed this problem for everyone and for any inconvenience we apologise.” Murphy notices, however, that she doesn’t see blue checkmarks indicating that anybody reads your message, so that there might be minor problems around it.
More than 100,000 users reported Instagram problems on the DownDetector at one point during the outage; over 24,000 users reported problems with WhatsApp, and over 5,000 users reported Facebook Messenger problems.
As I browse the Instagram website during the break, I saw a white page with the “5xx Server Error” post. I also redownloaded Instagram to my phone and tried to log in, but also encountered an error during the failure.
Friday’s outage isn’t the only recent blip in Facebook’s services: Facebook Messenger and Instagram DMs went down back in December. Facebook and Instagram also experienced big outages over Thanksgiving in 2019.
