India Records Over 53,000 COVID Cases in a Single Day

According to Health Ministry data, India recorded 53,476 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, the largest single-day spike in more than five months. The new cases bring the total number of COVID cases in India to 1,17,87,534 since the pandemic began. Since October 23, 2020, India has seen the largest regular increase in COVID-19 cases. For the 15th day in a row, the active caseload increased, reaching 3,95,192 cases.

According to data updated on Thursday morning, India had 251 deaths in the previous 24 hours, raising the overall death toll to 1,60,692. Meanwhile, 26,490 people have recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of people who have recovered to 1,12,31,650.

India reported 47,262 new coronavirus cases in a single day on Wednesday, the largest single-day increase this year.

The increase in COVID-19 cases comes a day after the government announced that ‘Variants of Concerns’ from the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Brazil, as well as a new double mutant COVID variant, had been found in 18 states across the world.
