COVID-19 Symptoms: How to ensure your safety

With the numbers increasing day by day, India is moving up the ladder to become the most infected country in the world with over 32 lakh cases on (Dated: 26th August 2020).

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Union (MOHFW), India reports 67,151 new cases and 1,059 deaths within a 24-hour span.

The total count of coronaviruses was 32,34,474, of which 7,07,267 active cases, 24,67,759 cured and discharged, as well as a death count of 59,449.

There have been various symptoms seen in people with COVID-19 including mild symptoms or serious disease. Symptoms can occur two to fourteen days (2-14) after virus exposure. Individuals with these signs may have COVID-19:

COVID-19 is a coronavirus-related respiratory disease. Some individuals show no signs when they are affected. Most people can experience mild symptoms and strengthen themselves. However, around 1 in 6 would have serious issues including respiratory difficulties.

If you’re older or have other health problems like diabetes or heart disease, the chances of more severe symptoms are higher. Sometimes people also lose their taste & smell.

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

When to seek emergency medical attention

Look for emergency warning signs* for COVID-19. If someone is showing any of these signs, seek emergency medical care immediately:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion
  • Inability to wake or stay awake
  • Bluish lips or face

What to do to ensure the safety of you and your family during COVID-19?

There are multiple precautions you can take and follow some safety measures to ensure your stay healthy:

  • Wash your hands with soap often for at least 20 seconds
  • Use a hand sanitizer when soap and water are not readily available
  • Avoid unwashed hands to touch your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Cover your mouth while coughing/sneezing
  • Avoid physical interaction with sick people and social distance if you have to go out in public, keeping them at a minimum of 6 feet away from others
