In Maharashtra, the number of COVID-19 cases is increasing. The state added 31,855 new cases on Wednesday, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 25,64,881. The overall number of patients released was 15098, and 95 persons were declared dead, bringing the total number of patients to 22,62,593 and 53,684 respectively.

The new surge in cases occurred only three days after the state’s largest single-day increase in cases, 30,535 on March 21, 2021. In Mumbai, on the other hand, 5,185 new coronavirus cases were recorded in just 24 hours, the city’s highest single-day spike ever and a nearly 48 percent rise over the previous time. Around the same time frame, the city confirmed six deaths related to the outbreak, according to government reports.

This is the first time in Mumbai’s history that over 5,000 cases have been registered in a single day.
