Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin will not launch on August 15

Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin will not launch on August 15

A social media article says that Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine has been approved by the central government and will be available on the market from 15 August. A letter from the ICMR regarding the accelerated evaluation of vaccine clinical research is being used to communicate the post.

The availability on the market of the coronavirus vaccine is the only way out of the pandemic since COVID-19 is spreading quickly across the world. Bharat Biotech has recently obtained permission from the central government to a vaccine against COVID-19 in collaboration with ICMR ‘s Institute of Virology. Yet how early the vaccine will be available on the market will be the biggest issue.

Bharat Biotech's Covaxin will not launch on August 15

The Indian Medical Research Council (ICMR) said on July 2 that they wished the vaccine would take effect by August 15, but claimed that it would not have been the time limit.

It said it will “begin public health vaccines by 15 August at the latest.” And as WhatsApp approaches the imminent ‘sale’ of the vaccine, social media sources suggest that it will be available on the market as of 15 August.

There is also a letter from ICMR about the swift follow up of the clinical tests of the vaccine. This says: “The Central Government permission has been received from the Bharat Biotech vaccine on August 15, it will be available as a corona vaccine in the market.

CLAIM: Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine will be available in the market from 15 August, according to a letter from ICMR about fast-tracking the clinical trials of the vaccine.

FACT CHECK: The claim is false as 15 August is not actually a deadline for the launch of the vaccine.

    Quick Monitoring ICMR clarification:

Amid scientific uproar under which a vaccine can be produced under such a very short time, ICMR said it is in line with internationally agreed expectations of accelerated detection, and in the health and welfare of people in India, that it is creating an indigenous vaccine to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

The ICMR says the best Indian medical practitioners and scientists “should not” be considered “about their professionality, though input from commenters in the public domain is welcome.

In its declaration, the ICMR claimed that DG-ICMR ‘s letter to clinical site participants “was intended to minimize excessive paperwork without bypassing any required mechanism and to speed up patient recruitment.”

“The ICMR technique conforms precisely to internationally agreed criteria to quickly accompany the production of pandemic disease vaccines, whereby human and animal research will continue in parallel,” ICMR said in a statement.

When will coronavirus vaccine COVAXIN be available in the market?

According to a release, human clinical trials Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the COVAXIN will commence from July, therefore, at present no confirm information is available as to when the vaccine will be available in the market for human use.
