In the early reopening process of universities in Kerala, only students from graduate courses in the fifth and sixth semesters will attend. Since the pandemic is more monitored, the lessons for other semesters are eventually resumed.

The government has also declared the authorization to attend classes from January 4, to students studying in postgraduate programs and research courses. From 28 December, all the staff who are in education and non-teaching will go to college.

Previously, COVID-19 Safety Guidelines for the reopening of schools in the state were released by Kerala Education Department.

    Guidelines for school reopening-

    1. Just 50% of students are permitted to go to school according to the notice.
    2. 25% of students are permitted to take classes in schools whose student strength reaches 300.
    3. In the first week of the reopening, only one student will take a bench.
    4. In the course of school hours, students are expected to retain a social gap of 2 meters. The subordinates’ space, buses, and other cars, drinking water, and playground should all be promised social distances.
    5. Schools were taught in places where potable water is available, hands are washed and toilets to show bold markers.
    6. The classes will take place in different slots. The first lot of students will attend classes for a maximum of three hours, starting from 9 am or 10 am; after which the second batch can come in for three hours starting from 1 or 2 pm.
    7. Every school would constitute a COVID-19 cell, chaired by the principal or headmaster. The cell would meet once or twice a week to review the situation in the school. Whenever needed, health camps would be organized for students and staff members.
    8. Thermal screening of all students, teachers and staff members and use of masks inside the premises would be compulsory.

According to the Guidelines, the government’s decision to hold lessons for 10th and 12th students should be accompanied by precautions at the school level to prepare them for the public exams scheduled to be held in March.

In order to decide how many students can attend every day, the overall number of students eligible and other institutions should be dependent on the number of students in these schools.

Schools and colleges in Kerala were shut down in March 2020 due to the rapid spread of the Covid 19 Pandemic in the region, along with other educational institutions.
